Wines of Great Britain: Classic Method Hallmark

Distinctly British style...

Wines of Great Britain (WineGB) and Sarah Abbott MW were on a mission to establish English and Welsh classic method sparkling wine as one of the great wines of the world. With an influx of a variety of sparkling wine styles on the market, they wanted to clearly differentiate classic method as the luxury flagship sparkling wine style of Great Britain.

We were tasked with developing a quality assurance mark to convey the highest levels of craft and quality. The mark had to exude understated British luxury and allude to its deeper meaning. Importantly, it also had to work across a host of touch points, at different scales, digitally, in 2D and 3D.

We knew we had to elevate the classic method mark above usual wine accreditation symbols, so we looked to luxury iconography to explore more evocative design solutions that brought the unique qualities of English and Welsh classic method to the fore.

Our hallmark design is an abstract representation of quintessential rolling British countryside and the intersection of craft, time, climate and soils. The understated luxe colour palette evokes spring growth and chalk and flint soils. The overall impression is one of timeless elegance.

Launched to much fanfare in October 2020 the GB Classic Method Hallmark has already been adopted by leading producers including Hush Heath, Ridgeview, Gusbourne Estate and Hattingley Valley.

We’ll raise a glass to that!
